Bridge Simulator for Azerbaijan State Oil Company, Dec 9th 2009 Minimize
stud1.jpg

In September 2008 Azerbaijan State Oil Company installed the new Poseidon Pharos GMDSS simulator at their training center in Baku. Now the training center has further expanded with a full Bridge Simulator from Poseidon.

The Poseidon Pharos GMDSS Simulator installation from 2008 has one instructor station and twelve student stations. On two of the stations, there is a hardware VHF as well as hardware MF/HF, alarm panel and battery indicator.

In November 2009, Håvard Jakobsen and Terje Waag installed the Poseidon Borealis Bridge Simulator at the same school. This is a large installation with six student bridges.

The Main Bridge has nine visual channels (270 degree view) and each of the five additional student stations has three visual channels. The visuals on these 5 stations are displayed on 52" LCD monitors whereas on the Main Bridge the visual is being displayed by 9 projectors. This gives an impressive view of the area where the students are sailing. The consoles used are shiplike and gives a excellent impression.

Poseidon has also delivered a customized sailing area for Baku as well as tailor made ship models. In these shallow waters, training on a simulator will prepare the students for their task when they are sailing their own ship in the same area. After all, it is far more expensive to get grounded with a real ship than to do it in the simulator.

Tromsø University "Touches the GMDSS Screen", Oct 5th 2009 Minimize

uit-1-300.jpgPoseidon won the bid for a new GMDSS simulator system for the Nautical Department at Tromsø University (UIT). This week the Poseidon Pharos GMDSS simulator, containing 14 touch screens, was installed.

One of the main requirements for the new GMDSS simulator for the Nautical Department at UIT was that the instruments should be realistically simulated and operated on touch screen.

The Poseidon Pharos GMDSS simulator caters for these requirements and each delivered station is equipped with two touch screen monitors.

For voice communication UIT has chosen to use real Sailor handsets as an alternative to headsets. Other real equipment can optionally be connected to the Poseidon Pharos GMDSS Simulator software.

Grand Opening of Simulator Center in Lofoten, May 12th 2009 Minimize

Commissioner for Education in Norland County, Trud Berg, had the honour  of opening the Bridge Simulator Center at the Maritime College, Gravdal, Lofoten. May 12, 2009

The inauguration ceremony that took place Monday 12th of May gathered several prominent guest, including the Mayor in Vestvågøy municipal, Jonny Finnstad.

The simulator installation includes a Full Mission Bridge Simulator with three student bridges, all with real ship handles and visual simulation. The Main Bridge is also equipped with a Fishing Simulator module. The new Poseidon Pharos GMDSS simulator is a natural part of the simulator installation.

The guests were allowed to sail and dock a conventional ship and a high-speed craft in Tromsø harbor under changing weather conditions. All was carefully supervised by chief simulator instructor, Capt. Svein Arne Danielsen and instructor Ronald Hansen.

The Bridge simulator software and hardware is developed to stand the DNV class A audit, however, due to inadequate space for the visual simulation the certification must wait until the new simulator building is available. The Commissioner promised to search for a better housing solution for the simulator center.

The opening ceremony was rounded off with speaks during an exceptional dinner based on grilled stockfish (dried cod), prepared by the students in the college's cooking class.

The group of 40 students from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, had their last official day of training in Lofoten the 3rd of December. They have completed eight week theoretical/practical training that is a part of an approved training program for Deck and Engine Ratings.

In cooperation with federal states in the Niger delta area and partners in Norway, Poseidon Consulting has developed a training program that enables the participants to obtain Norwegian certificates as deck or engine ratings.

After the theoretical/practical course, at an approved maritime training institution, the candidates needs two months of supervised sea service onboard a Norwegian flagged vessel.

It is a lack of trained seafarers in Nigeria and this specialized training program will contribute to combating unemployment among the youth in the Niger delta and supply qualified personnel to the domestic and international fleet operating on the vest-coast of Africa and world-wide
